This was a new term for me.

It’s so easy to take food for granted and blow past how our neighbors live. Globally and locally, we have food deserts and food insecurity. I just love this cookbook, Simply in Season, for encouraging us to eat well, to be connected to the earth and to have compassion and humility when it comes to our food. Yes, we must be thoughtful, especially in my country where food waste is a giant problem. I am really struck by a local organization in my town called Out of the Garden who addresses hunger for children and families. They are amazing networkers and keep on growing. My church Hope Chapel has partnered with them for a few years and I have to say, it’s cool to see all the local business support of food donations from Panera to grocery stores. There is so much meat, fresh produce and awesome bread going to people who need a boost.

That being said, we need to continue to be aware of produce and garden deficiencies and health crisis and being mindful of our exports! These two excerpts were a good reminder.
